aki in japan
it's been a while since my last blog, but i've been pretty busy these past few weeks. this week i am in the process of moving to my new apartment! last night was the first night i slept in Nomura. it was a great feeling to drift to sleep without having to worry about waking up to bugs crawling all over me.
i was able to buy some furniture at a IKEA-like shop in Ozu, and the rest the i will get from a friend bought for me at the second hand shop in Imabari. i can tell my spirits are raising already, even though i haven't fully converted to my new pad. soon i will put up some pictures of the place ^_^.
last weekend i had my first onsen experience. onsen are japanese style public baths. usually natural hot springs, guests are required to bathe nude. me and some friends headed to Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama for the experience. Dogo is japan's oldest onsen, and also it is the bath that the onsen in Spirited Away was modeled after. i liked it so much that me and the girls have decided to go onsening twice a month to relax!
finally, today i found out big news: you can buy real pumpkins in Nomura! today once i finish teaching my last class, a teacher and i are headed to a local farm to pick up a bunch of pumpkins. i don't know if i'm allowed to or not, but each class is going to get their own jackolantern! i'll do all the cutting, but i know the kids will love it! play some spooky music in the background - i can't wait! pictures as things develop!
